So the desire

ABOUT THE BOOK

This plaquette opens with a cut and a flower: without a wound there is no aesthetic fact. Rilke had already warned us: The poet must not defend himself against anything. There is an anemone and an anecdote behind this phrase: the flower that the Czech poet contemplated had opened so much during the day that it could not close at night. Art and writing begin in the experience of the open, beyond the limits of the corolla.

The open, where in the poems selected for this plaquette? Towards the experience of love, the great gap that crosses us and accompanies us throughout our lives. The poems give an account of (mis)encounters, (un)fulfilled desires, various manifestations of eroticism and tenderness and also of exile, which can be read as the total deprivation of loving territory. The ultimate experience that closes the plaquette refers to the amazement of the craft: is the writer a being who inhabits the word or is it the word that inhabits him to make the invisible visible?

BREAKFAST IN ANTIGUA, GUATEMALA 2018

I saw the light clearing the oracles of sleep.

I saw the nodding of leaves on blue dawn trees.

I saw the thick scarf of fog in the throat of the Agua volcano.

I do not touch anything on this earth (thus the desire):

I am the retractable part of the bird and I breathe the recent bread,

the crushed grains.
